A History of Wigton School

A Centenary of the School

Wigton School was founded in 1815, and the old scholars association decided to commemorate the centenary of its foundation by publishing a History of the School.  Written by several members of the association this book includes anecdotes of their time there and personal memories of the staff that taught them.

Also included is a list of all scholars that attended the school with some of the girls even having their future spouses names included.

Wigton is situated in Cumberland however the school accepted people from other areas.  The school was built for the Society of Friends ( Quakers) however over the years non members were allowed to study their so long as they followed the rules laid down by those who were members of the society.  Students came from Manchester, Cumberland, Scotland and as far away as London so hopefully this book will appeal to a wider audience.

Please note this book is not searchable.
